I always look good.
That is not a brag, but a societal demand I’m forced to follow. We attach morals to people based on the way they look or dress, and as a fat person, I can’t afford to dress casually or be average-looking.
Living with a fat body for the past 30 years has made me witness the glaring difference in how humanely I am treated when I’m dressed up versus when I’m not. This realization led me to ALWAYS dress well and have my hair and makeup done for doctor appointments, DMV visits, meetings, and first impressions—regardless of the time.
Last year, a doctor who was filling in for my primary physician looked at my body and prescribed cholesterol, diabetes, and high blood pressure medications without any blood tests, solely based on his preconceptions about fat bodies like mine.
